Vans has teamed up with renowned artist Taka Hayashi on a special capsule line featuring colorful Pendleton wool.
Hayashi designed a custom Pendleton blanket, inspired by one of his paintings, which serves as the centerpiece of the collection. Using the Southwestern-themed pattern, Hayashi put a new spin on two iconic Vault by Vans styles.
The Classic Slip-On has been updated with a moccasin-inspired silhouette, detailed with saddle-leather trim and an embossed midsole wrap. The Sk8-Hi has been reimagined as the TH Sk8 Huarache LX, featuring patterned fabric quarter-panels and an embellished, laser-etched heel counter. The fabric swatches are hand-cut and hand-stitched to the sneakers’ uppers, so no two pairs are the same.
Set for global release on Nov. 28, the shoes are priced from $120 to $150. Hayashi’s Pendleton blanket will also be available for purchase, for $285. The roster of U.S. retailers stocking the collection includes Barneys New York, Conveyor, Bodega, Nice Kicks, Undefeated and The Webster.
The German automotive marque has imbued 911-like styling in models like the Boxster and Caymen, while the quintessential California skate brand has utilized the Authentic DNA for releases such as the iconic Vans Era in 1975, which went on to become the footwear choice for a creation of skateboarders. When a cushioned collar and “Off the Wall” branding were inserted to the fundamental Vans Authentic shape in 1976, the first ever skateboarding shoe has been created since the Vans Era, and this is the shoe that the godfathers of skateboarding — Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva and the Z-Boys — were winning competitions with. The shoe has resonated loudly through skateboarding culture, as well as punk rock, hip, emo, streetwear, and even with men whose wives tell them exactly what to buy. It’s set the platform for EYTYS, COMME des GARÇONS in addition to Saint Laurent to create their own requirements of this shoe. It’s innately and ubiquitously that a dope sneaker, and brands including Supreme, Liberty London, Disney, and Kenzo have provided powerful co-signs farther lofting the Authentic silhouette as un-fuckable-wit. The Vans Era in leather is a classic, no frills sneaker that lends itself quite well to office apparel. The Era in black is a fantastic choice because they look great with everything from jeans and a tee shirt to slacks and a blazer. The Era in White is the most sneaker-y choice on our list, and makes the ideal option for casual offices that still need some decorum. We recommend wearing them with nice jeans, a crisp button-up, and a quality sweater for a casual office outfit look that is still decidedly professional.
